Faith in Action

Ethiopia

The fight for life continues in this country that has been ravaged by hunger for decades. Through partnerships with local churches, we are providing help for malnourished children and for remote, famine-stricken villages.

The pictures we have seen on television have taken on new meaning as we have gone into villages where the death of children is a way of life. We see the hopeless looks on mother's faces as they bring their limp and lethargic children to the feeding centers - their only hope. There is a strong Christian influence in Ethiopia, and we are fortunate to be able to work closely with local pastors who help us identify the places of greatest need. We have been able to take relief aid into drought and famine-stricken villages and help support feeding centers for critically ill children. However, distribution of relief aid by itself does not solve the problem in Ethiopia. Therefore, we are working with local pastors and village leaders to implement plans for long-range solutions.
